Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51M watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series recorded 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete US average was 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various tongues.
