Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
